The Four C’s-Diamond Information

Diamond Color

One of the ways a diamond is graded to determine the value is by the color, or rather the lack of color.  You may have heard a diamond referred to as a D, E, F or J, K, L and had no idea what that meant.   The diamond color chart is actually divided by letter and the amount of yellow in the stone determines the letter.

Colorless diamonds are considered to be D-F grades.  These are the rarest and most valuable diamonds. There is not a lot of difference to the naked eye of the average person.   A gemologist can assist you with detecting the color.

Near Colorless diamonds, G-J, are more common and are a good value as you can rarely detect any color unless you set them side by side with the higher grades.  There is only the slightest tint of yellow, more so as you go down the alphabet.

Noticeable Color,K-Z, have a perceptible yellowish tint.  These are the least valuable.
